Still We Rise — Self-Portrait, Detroit 2024
20 × 24-inch print on heavyweight watercolor paper | Special London Sale | October 18, 2026
Presented for a special London sale in conjunction with Ackeem Salmon’s presentation at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, Self-Portrait, Detroit 2024 marks ten years since the artist’s move from Jamaica to Detroit.
Centered on the theme Still We Rise, this work reflects on migration, memory, and the ongoing process of becoming. It considers how the places we leave and the communities we enter shape our understanding of ourselves—and how we carry those experiences forward.
For Salmon, Detroit became a place of artistic formation, meaningful relationships, and personal transformation. This self-portrait honors that decade and the connections between his Jamaican roots and the city that became home.
Offered as a 20 × 24-inch print, the work invites collectors to share in a reflection on belonging, resilience, and the possibility of growth across borders.
